Air Swings Guide: Requirements, Limitations & Getting Started

Share:

Air Swings let Blast Baseball and Softball capture swing metrics even when you don’t make contact with a ball — useful for dry swings, warmups, and reps. It’s a free feature available to any user with a compatible Gen 3 sensor.

Requirements

  • Software: Android Blast Baseball/Softball R2.12+ or iOS Blast Baseball/Softball 5.13+.
  • Hardware: A Gen 3 Sensor (Swing Analyzer Sensor). You can identify a Gen 3 sensor by its 12-digit serial number, where the second digit on the top row is 5 or greater. Check the serial on the back of the sensor or under My Sensor in the app.
  • Swing Trainer sensor users must upgrade to a Swing Analyzer sensor to use Air Swings.

Limitations

  • Ball Flight only supports swings with impact — it does not work on air swings.
  • Slap Mode (softball) only supports swings with impact.

Subscription & Access

Air Swings is a free feature — no Premium Service subscription is required. It can be used by an individual user or in Coach Mode.

How Air Swings Work Alongside Regular Swings

When Air Swings mode is ON, the sensor and app capture and process both swings with impact and swings without impact at the same time. Air swings still need to match the signature of a normal baseball/softball swing to be counted as valid.

The app shows several indicators when Air Swings are active:
– Whether Air Swings Mode is currently ON/OFF in the app
– Whether Air Swings Mode is active on the sensor
– Which swings, sessions, and metric summaries contain air swings

Air Swings work with several major app features, using a Peak Speed marker in place of an impact marker:
– Online and offline swings (peak angular velocity used instead of impact)
– Auto-curated video (Peak Speed marker instead of impact)
– 3D Swing Tracer (Peak Speed marker instead of impact)
– Filters that let you include or exclude air swings when viewing swing data

How to Get Your First Air Swing Metric

Online Mode (iOS/Android):
1. Make sure the sensor is connected and attached to your bat.
2. Go to the Live screen (iOS) or Dashboard (Android).
3. On iOS, tap the pill in the top right and swipe the radio button to turn on Air Swings; set Environment and Layout, then tap Start Practice. On Android, turn on Air Swings by swiping the feature on the Live screen.
4. Take your first swing.

Offline Mode: Same setup as Online mode, but verify battery (charge if below 20%) and the correct bat is selected before closing the app and swinging. Reconnect afterward and tap UPLOAD in the notification/inbox to download swings.

Video Mode: Turn on Air Swings the same way, then use the Camera screen’s record button to capture your swing on video alongside its metrics.

These steps apply to both Blast Baseball and Blast Softball.

FAQ

Do Air Swings require a subscription?
No — Air Swings is a free feature that doesn’t require a Premium Service subscription.

What sensor do I need for Air Swings?
A Gen 3 Swing Analyzer sensor. Swing Trainer sensors are not compatible and must be upgraded.

Can the app capture regular swings and air swings at the same time?
Yes — with Air Swings mode ON, both swing types are captured and processed together, as long as each swing matches a valid swing signature.

Does 3D Swing Tracer work with air swings?
Yes, but it displays a Peak Speed marker instead of an impact marker since there’s no ball contact.
