Kansas City Royals Select Blast Motion for Swing Analytics and Player Development Insights

(Carlsbad, California – February 11, 2019) – Today, Blast announces that the Kansas City Royals have selected Blast technology to track swing data for applications in player development, scouting, and R&D. Building on success in the National League, the Royals are the 3rdteam in the AL Central and 10thteam in the American League to leverage Blast sensors, data, and insights in their organization. The Blast Pro Team solution has been designed to easily integrate into the workflow of MLB organizations and their MiLB affiliates. The 2018 approval for bat sensors in-game at the various affiliate levels has allowed for the validation of Blast metrics and insights with correlations to successful batted ball results.

“We are excited for this opportunity to work with Blast Motion as we continue to help our Player Development Staff use real time data to help our hitters maximize their potential at the plate,” said Alec Zumwalt, Kansas City Royals, Director of Baseball Operations / Player Development and Scouting.

Blast Baseball is the Official Bat Sensor Technology of Major League Baseball and is utilized by over two-thirds of the MLB teams, including the Astros, Twins, and Padres. Blast swing insights have become the benchmark for evaluating and improving a player’s swing, with industry leading accuracy and consistency validated by The Center for Human Performance. Beyond pro teams, Blast technology is now utilized by over 60% of the Power 5 Conferences and 300 top collegiate programs. Over 1,500 high schools, elite travel teams, and organizations are using Blast for coaching, training, and recruiting. The same technology used by MLB teams is available for coaches and players of all ages and skill levels, helping them evaluate and improve a player’s swing through automatic swing quality assessments, video analysis & comparisons, 3D swing visualizations, and personalized performance reports.

“The adoption of Blast technology across Major League Baseball has been a huge catalyst for our growth in the sport,” said Justin Goltz, Blast Motion, MLB Channel Manager. “With increasing use amongst players on the 40-man rosters and MiLB in-game, it allows us to provide consumers with metrics and insights that are accurate, consistent amongst successful player populations, and correlated to on field success.”
