How Do I Fix a Blast Sensor Firmware Update That Won’t Complete?

Share:

A firmware update runs automatically whenever your Blast sensor needs one, but it requires an active Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to complete. If the update is stuck, the most reliable fix is to delete and reinstall the app, which automatically resets the sensor and lets it retry the update.

Before You Start

Deleting the app automatically resets the sensor, so back up anything you don’t want to lose first:

  • Back up any videos to Blast Connect (requires a subscription) or save them directly to your device.
  • Your recorded metrics are already safe — they’re stored in the cloud automatically whenever your device has a data connection.

Steps to Resolve a Firmware Update Issue

  1. Check your connection. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi or has cellular data active.
  2. Check the sensor connection. Confirm the sensor is connected to the app (from the Analyze, Training, Live, or Swings screen, tap the Menu, then My Sensor, select your sensor, and shake it — logo toward the ground for 2 seconds, then toward the sky for 2 seconds, repeating until it connects).
  3. Delete the app.
    – Touch and hold the Blast app icon until it starts to shake.
    – Tap the X in the corner of the app icon.
    – Tap Delete.
  4. Reinstall the app.
    – Go to the App Store (or Google Play).
    – Search for the Blast App.
    – Select the app and tap the download icon.
  5. Log back in using the same username and password you used before.
  6. Wait five minutes. The sensor needs a few minutes to reconnect, after which the firmware update should try again automatically.

If the update still doesn’t complete, wait five minutes and try again. If it continues to fail after that, contact Blast Motion customer support with your username (email) and your sensor’s serial number (found on the top and bottom of the sensor) ready.

Android-Specific Check: Location Services

On Android devices, the firmware update can also fail if Location Services are turned off — the Blast app requires this permission to be enabled. To check:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap Blast App.
  4. Tap Permissions.
  5. Swipe the toggle on to enable Location.

You can also enable Location quickly from your notification shade, or on Samsung devices via Settings > Connections > Location.

FAQ

Will I lose my data if I delete the app to fix a firmware issue?
No — your metrics are stored in the cloud. Just be sure to back up any videos to Blast Connect or your device beforehand, since the sensor resets when the app is deleted.

Why does my Android sensor still fail to update after reinstalling?
Double-check that Location Services are enabled for the Blast app in your device settings — this is a common Android-specific blocker for firmware updates.

Who do I contact if the firmware update still won’t complete?
Reach out to Blast Motion customer support with your account email and your sensor’s serial number.
